About This Project

Hobby Hub is a conceptual app designed by me and two fellow students as part of a UX/UI class at Simon Fraser University. The app's primary purpose was to serve as a marketplace and trading tool for tabletop card game players. This project tested our abilities to create functional, presentable user interfaces for mobile devices that are interacted with via touch screen.  I was primarily in charge of designing the layout and pathing of the app, including designing how users would navigate throughout the interface with least resistance. This project began on March 1st 2021 and ended on April 12th 2021.

Early design sketches for Hobby Hub.

Like all good projects, it began on paper. We as a team split up for a week to come up with individual ideas on our own and present them to each other and finalize a project topic. My idea for a marketplace for tabletop games was eventually chosen and expanded upon to become specifically about card collected as well as adding a social media element to it. The following week I spent time refining my idea as well as incorporating team feedback for what to add as well as what to change until finally returning with a result that we as a team would begin recreating digitally.
Once we as a team decided on an app concept, we began to create wireframes for the app, listing every feature Hobby Hub would have and figuring our how exactly we wanted our users to get from to to another. We then created a prototype site on UXPin where our ideas could be realized in a physical form. This was the site that Hobby Hub operated on throughout its development. After our first prototype was complete we began user testing over the internet by using the online chat client "discord" to host sessions where we would send testers a link to the app with a short description of what it's primary function was. Testing proved to be very beneficial to the development as we were able to easily isolate and correct reoccurring problems that popped up for testers. After this phase, we as a group moved on to the last stage of our project which involved finalizing and completing development on the app to present it as a finished product for our professors. Overall I am very satisfied with how Hobby Hub turned out. It was a fun and exercising project that allowed me to apply my technical and conceptual knowledge in graphic and UI design in an area that I have a lot of interest in.
